Sustainability

Handle

One billion toothbrushes will be thrown away in the US alone this year, most of them plastic. They remain in landfills indefinitely, for perhaps hundreds of years . In fact, all plastic toothbrushes that you have used in your lifetime probably still exist. Like so much other plastic that’s thrown away, toothbrushes often end up in waterways and oceans.

Bamboo is a great alternative to plastic and is considered a highly sustainable material. Bamboo is a grass and not a tree — it’s fast growing and self-regenerates from its own roots, so it doesn't need to be replanted. It doesn't require large amounts of water, pesticides, or labor.

The toothbrush handle will biodegrade in commercial compost conditions and return to the earth in about six months.

Bristles

The bristles are soft and medium-soft. They are made from bio-based DuPont material — a combination of castor oil and nylon.

To ensure zero waste, the bristles can be plucked with pliers and the handle composted. Check first if your local recycling accepts nylon.

Packaging

We use plastic-free and recyclable cardboard packaging.
